This course expands into the psychic and geopolitical processes archived by the medium of air. It asks us to read the molecular code of our atmosphere to encounter the traces of violence, kinship, and becoming present in the invisible effluvia that surrounds us. We will collectively scale down to the smallest matter our bodies absorb from postnatural airs—VOCs, dust, particulate matter, scent molecules—in order to encounter the largest systems we are embedded in. Revealing our co-extensiveness with global networks that trace down to the particle and breath.

This course will be part theory and part practice, focused on respiratory and olfactory attunement.

Air is a teacher of our porosity: we are inextricably webbed with the ills and the joys of every affective and material shift of Earth’s atmosphere. Structures of power and communality swirl as breezes and effluvia. Our lungs expand to receive these complex airs, allowing us to be recomposed by extant particles, odorant molecules, and traces of planetary transference.

Olfactory Meditation for End Times is an offering that taps into this interconnectivity by offering dedicated space to breathe and smell into our troubled present—thinking and practicing with olfactive engagement as a portal for microcosmic communion.

This workshop is presented in conjunction with A toxin threatens, but it also beckons by agustine zegers at the IAO Gallery. The exhibition will be on view from November 6 – December 18, 2026.

Breathing Commons (Tuning Scores + Scent Praxis) is co-taught by Margit Galanter of vivid grove and agustine zegers of Speculative Scent Lab.

A 3-part, experimental session exploring the critical dimensions of breath and its odorants. Part para-pedagogical inquiry, part study group, part somatic play. These sessions are seasonally anchored, engaging the metal element of Fall and its association with the lungs—inviting our somas and alveoli into collective practice through breathwork and tuning scores.

Intro to Critical Olfaction is back for a 2026 session! Smells are dually nourishing and noxious, granting us access to the subtle dimensions of affect, geopolitical and environmental shifts, and aberrant social orders. This class intends on activating an awareness of the underbelly of scent—studying olfaction critically from a decolonial ecologically and socially engaged lens in order to unravel all it has to teach us.

This class will be held as three 2-hour modules throughout the month of June, with recordings available asynchronously to all those who participate. Three tiers of sliding scale pricing are available. Please choose the option that you feel best reflects your income level, structural financial constraints, and economic privileges. Read more here.

Co-facilitated with lee wilmoth: a somatic foray into the agential power of scent for worlding. Participants will engage in practices of world-building through olfactive and embodied engagement. We will leverage somatics and scent as portals for activating more liberatory futures. Optional scent package add-on includes four fragrance samples sent to your home.

Sympoietic Breath invites a deeper awareness of how smells reveal our embeddedness in systems of ecological collapse and emergence. With one inhale, our body awakens to an incorporated cosmos. Ancient molecular exchanges, traces of industry, plant breath, and decaying life all transit through the pleura of our lungs. Odorant molecules also join in, entering the continuous lubricated movement of our breaths. These smelly compounds reveal the ever-enfolding complexities of air, allowing us to decode its composition through our olfactory bulbs and opening us up to intelligences at the scale of the invisible. As such, our sense of smell–animated by the breath–can be activated as a collaborative sensemaking tool for an ever-shifting planet. Participants will be introduced to ecological and olfactory terminology and will be guided through an olfactive exercise to help us put collaborative breathing and smelling into practice.

Somatic Smellscaping is a course that weaves together scent chemistry, somatic exercises, and the basics of scent composition in order to give participants an entryway into sensing the world and their soma through smell. We will study the molecular overlaps of all kinds of species and matter to understand how, at a molecular level, we are intimately connected to Earth and oneness in ways we may not be privy to in our occularcentric society. We will breathe together, observe interspecies kinship through odorant molecules, observe our own bodies in new ways, learn about materials and extraction, and share tools for working with scents. The course will merge scientific knowledge with meditation practice and etheric principles to help us weave together new material-ephemeral understandings of our world through scent and invite you to begin an olfactory practice. The modality will be online, with a lecture-based and conversational approach and incorporate meditation and remote smelling exercises throughout. This class will be held virtually.
